After being
turned down to attend a local arts & crafts fair, I was a
little baffled. This is an arts & crafts only event, I was
told. What? I was a little miffed at the refusal. I have worked at
another community arts & crafts event and was welcomed
enthusiastically. It made me think about what was implied. The idea
that there is no art or craft involved in bodywork is,
well...misinformed. It does not matter what bodywork modality you look
at: Massage Therapy, Reflexology, Reiki, etc. Special training, skills
and talent are needed to produce the desired results.
The craft of bodywork lies in the technical learning about the body,
followed by hands-on training. The art of bodywork is taking that
essence of craftwork, and mixing them with the needs of each client.
The finished masterpiece of each body worker has a main theme: to
enable the client's body to heal itself. Whether the mediums used are
massage, reflexology, reiki, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy, yoga,
meditation, nutrition, physical therapy, prayer, etc...these are only
the paints and brushes of the bodywork artisans. |
